Railway Applications in n4ce
There is a growing need to introduce specialised application tools for rail surveys. General tools have been introduced within the n4ce Professional edition that will be discussed here together with and some specific to rail trollies and rail templates.

The Points menu contains the Projection option. This allows selected points to be projected to a reference string. Options available include projection to either a CAD or feature line, copying or moving points and various interpolation choices. Calculations for distances, cant ands slope can be stored as Dimensions and displayed as shown above. |

AiC recognises a number of different suppliers of specialist equipment and services. With regards to rail track monitoring we have been working closely with Railcare Advanced Instruments Ltd and their Rail TQM equipment and have produced software tools to process and display data resulting from this equipment. These can be found at http://www.rail-tqm.co.uk/index.html |

Special tools have been developed for Rail TQM including a template reduction. This takes measurements from twin prisms attached to a template, which rests on the rails as shown opposite. The bracket offsets and heights are entered and the resulting calculation determines the coordinates of the inside and at a set distance below the rail.

Specialist presentation tools for rail surveys are also available. The above is a sample survey for a London railway station. Note that the text has been orientated to follow the direction of the rail.
Options are available for alternatively calculating the position of a second rail from the Cant and Gauge measurements. These could come from the Leica GRP100 rail trolley. An addition to these calculations is the meaning of overlapping measurements. Tolerance checking will highlight where potential problems exist.
